The 3 Rules of Pool Chemical Balancing

Balance Alkalinity
First

Total Alkalinity acts as a buffer for pH. If alkalinity is out of range, pH will fluctuate wildly. Always adjust your Total Alkalinity (80–120 ppm) before attempting to dial in pH.

Never Mix Chemicals Directly

Always add chemicals individually to the pool with the circulation pump running. Never combine different chemicals in the same bucket or container, as dangerous chemical reactions can occur.

Dose Gradually & Allow Time to Circulate

Add chemical doses in smaller increments rather than all at once. Wait at least 20 to 30 minutes between different treatments and run the pump for 4 to 6 hours before retesting water levels.
